MAKE POVERTY HISTORY is a coalition of more than 70 aid and development organisations, community and faith-based groups. In Australia, we work in partnership with Micah Challenge and the Global Call For Action Against Poverty (GCAP) to achieve the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and halve global poverty by 2015.
Make Poverty History has been recognised as playing a leading role in achieving policy commitments to lift and increase aid volume, significantly increase the percentage of the aid budget to NGO and civil society programs, significantly increase funding to basic education, water and basic health and HIV/AIDS programs, implementing a $75m debt swap with Indonesia to convert debt service to TB program funding as well as ensuring aid programming is measured against the MDGs and reported to the Federal Parliament.
However there is still much work to do if we are to achieve the MDGs. Whilst significant progress has been made in many areas, stronger political will and urgent government action is required if Australia is to meet the commitments they made to achieve the MDG’s and halve global poverty by 2015.
The Make Poverty History campaign is not a fundraising campaign. If you wish to make a financial contribution to help end global poverty, give to the existing poverty-alleviating programs of our members. You can also buy a White Band to help support the campaigning efforts.
NGOs, churches, organisations or groups who would like to become members of the campaign can contact us via this form.

Churches
Make Poverty History is a secular campaign but works closely with a sister church-based campaign known as Micah Challenge, which seeks to mobilise Australian Christians against poverty and which has the support of many churches and church leaders.
Jesus and the Old Testament prophets spoke out for the poor. As followers of Jesus, churches can work together to bring kindness and justice to poor communities. Micah Challenge is taking part of its inspiration from the words found in the Bible. The Book of Micah 6:8 says – “What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love kindness and to walk humbly with your God.”
