November 17 - Make Poverty History Concert
The concert you've all been waiting for! Featuring some of Australia's most popular
music acts, the biggest advocacy concert Australia has seen will be held at Melbourne's
Myer Music Bowl to an audience of 30,000. Can't get there? Go to one of the many
live sites we will be setting up around the country. Keep an eye on the website
for updates.
Australia's leading bands will come together to Make Poverty History in an unprecedented
free concert being staged in Melbourne in the lead up to the G20 meeting in November.
The Make Poverty History Concert will take place on Friday, 17 November 2006 at
the Sidney Myer Music Bowl with an additional live site at Dockland's Waterfront
City. It is expected to draw crowds of more than 25,000 and is being touted as Australia's
biggest youth-run music event. Other live sites may yet be organised but there will
also be a live broadcast on Nova FM and MySpace.com. A delayed telecast will air
on Channel 10 the next day.
The concert, the first of its kind to be staged in Australia, follows on from the
phenomenal success of the Live8 concerts, which took place around the world in 2005,
and which saw world leaders make progress in the fight against poverty.
The high profile Australian acts performing on the night will be Sarah Blasko, Eskimo
Joe, Evermore, the Hilltop Hoods, the John Butler Trio, Paul Kelly, David Bridie
and Telek and Kev Carmody.
Although the concert is free to the public, it will be a ticketed event. Tickets
will be available through concert partners and full details will be available on
the Make Poverty History website, www.makepovertyhistory.com.au,
by Friday, 20 October.
The event has received the generous support of several leading Australian organisations.
The principal sponsor of the concert is Optus and major sponsors include the Herald
Sun, mX, Nova 100, MySpace and Network 10.
