Here's our list of simple, everyday actions you can do to inspire your family, friends, school, community, church and political leaders to get involved in reducing child mortality and improving maternal health, as a matter of human rights.
Pledge your support
Send a message to our political leaders TODAY urging government action to make every mother and child count. We’ve prepared a pledge of support you can sign either online or print out and send it to us. We’ll collect them to present to politicians during the campaign.
To sign the online pledge of support click here.
Download these instructions (PDF: 1.8 MB) and a hard copy of the pledge here (PDF: 403 KB). This is a great activity for school, church and community groups.
Posters to promote the campaign
Download these posters to put up around your school, community centre, health centre or church. Our first poster (PDF: 56 KB) uses the child and maternal health symbol. The second poster (PDF: 112 KB) shows a mother and child in a Vietnamese health clinic.
Ideas for friends and groups
Standing around the barbie with a few friends and wondering what to say? Often the ups and downs of everyday life occupy our time and conversation. Why not organise a social get-together to talk about global issues?
We’ve put together some conversation starters (PDF: 198 KB) on the issue of global health for your next movie night or BBQ.
Getting community groups involved
Getting groups in your local community involved is a powerful way to spread the message to many people and involve others in the campaign. We've put together a simple guide (PDF: 113 KB) for you to use when approaching local community groups like local councils, mothers groups, local GPs, health providers and local media.
Health campaign letter writing guide
Writing to your local MP is a fantastic way to show your support for mothers and children in developing countries and make a real impact. We’ve put together some specific points on child and maternal health to help you. Click here (PDF: 93 KB) to download the guide.
Parents Against Poverty
Thanks to everyone who visited their MP on 7 July. We’ve been able to make a real impact on the MPs we visited. Several have committed to making speeches in Federal Parliament about Make Poverty History and the issue of Maternal and Child Health in the near future.
If you didn’t get a chance to visit your MP on 7 July, it isn’t too late! Make Poverty History is continuing to focus on this issue. The next few months are crucial as we lead up to a special event at Parliament House in Canberra with MPs at the end of September. We will be launching the report 'What will it take to achieve the health MDGs in South East Asia and the Pacific?'
Download more information, including tips and advice here (PDF: 104 KB).
Print these handouts for Government MPs (PDF: 149 KB) and Opposition MPs (PDF: 149 KB).
See the Events page for events that are already organised or to register your interest please send us an email
If you are going to visit an MP, you might find the Health Lobbying Guide (PDF: 59 KB) helpful.
